We collected a total of 42 C. hippurus larvae ranging from 3.5 and 14.7 mm in length. These were assigned to three developmental stages: 38 preflexion, two flexion, and two postflexion larvae. Size ranges of the preflexion, flexion, and postflexion larvae were 3.55.9 mm NL, 6.47.8 mm NL, and 11.714.7 mm TL, respectively. As the larvae grew, pigment densities increased and vertical coloured bands became more prominent. Notochord development was accompanied by hypochordal development of the homocercal caudal fin. All larvae collected in July were in the preflexion stage. In September, we collected one preflexion larva, and two in the flexion and postflexion stages. Coryphaena hippurus larvae were collected at six of 21 stations. Water temperatures and salinities at these stations in July were in the ranges 23.725.3°C and 31.232.5, respectively, and 22.224.7°C and 32.233.4, respectively, in September. We collected 37 larvae in July and three in September from neritic stations along transects A and B; two specimens were collected in September from offshore stations along northern transect D.
